Drug Uses
Treating serious infections caused by certain bacteria. It is not used to treat meningitis.Cleocin is a lincomycin antibiotic. Cleocin kills sensitive bacteria by stopping the production of essential proteins needed by the bacteria to survive.
How Taken
Use Cleocin as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.
- Take Cleocin by mouth with or without food.
- Take Cleocin with a full glass of water (8 oz/240 mL).
- Cleocin works best if it is taken at the same time each day.
- To clear up your infection completely, take Cleocin for the full course of treatment. Keep taking it even if you feel better in a few days.
- If you miss a dose of Cleocin , take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Missed Dose
Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose you missed and apply only your next regularly scheduled dose. Keep applications at least 12 hours apart
Warnings/Precautions
- It may take up to 3 months to see the effects of this drug. Do not stop using Cleocin T Gel if you do not see results immediately.
- Avoid your eyes, nose, mouth, and lips when applying Cleocin T Gel . If medication gets in any of these areas, wash with water.
- Stop using Cleocin T Gel and talk to your doctor if you experience severe diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, or abdominal pain.
Possible Side Effects
- Stop using Cleocin T Gel and seek emergency medical attention if you experience severe, bloody diarrhea along with abdominal pain.
- Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to use Cleocin T Gel and talk to your doctor if you experience burning, itching, drying, redness, oiliness, or peeling of the skin.
- Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.
More Information
Cleocin is to be used only by the patient for whom it is prescribed. Do not share it with other people.
